Budget Accommodation in France
You can camp just about anywhere in France although some sites close over the winter and there are restrictions on wild camping in the national parks. Hostels and Foyers (dorm accommodation) are abundant and in the summer student accommodation is often transformed into hostels.
A Traveller's Budget for France
You'll get by on about 50 Euro a day and you can eat cheaply if you take full advantage of the vast aray of bread and cheese on offer and wash it down with some cheap wine. Cafe culture is huge and you should be able to eat really well for little money with little effort.
Some of the best ways to see the country are cycle / motorcycle touring, or if that's not your thing you can get a Euro rail pass, the train network is excellent and covers the majority of the country. Where it lacks in rural areas there are buses to fill in the gaps. Buy your tickets in advance online to get cheaper fares.
