Budget Guide to Ghana

Explore the ancient civilisationa that preceded the modern day Ghana - the first African nation to break free of imperialistic rule. Religion plays a huge part in the day to day lives of the Ghanaians, but never at the expense of having a good time.

Budget Accommodation in Ghana

If you take your tent with you there are camping spots in the National Parks and on many of the beaches, otherwise the cheaper hotels are exactly that, and the quality will probably match at the low end. Even so for about US$5 you should be able to find a decent bed.

A Traveller's Budget for Ghana

The transport method of choice is, as it is throughout most of Africa, bus. A company called STC runs frequent and reliable services between the major centres, other operators are often a little cheaper but at the expense of some reliability and comfort. Aside from coach travel, minibuses also run between towns and serve some of the country not covered by the larger buses. There is also a boat service in Ghana which travels up and down lake Volta once a week. It's popular though so try and book yourself a seat in advance. If all this fails there's always the mammy wagons...

To eat well on a tight budget use the chop bars - on just about every roadside in the country. You can expect rice based dishes in the south and Guinea fowl in the north. Mmm.
