Budget Travel Guide to Lesotho

This little outdoor lovers gem of a country is surrounded entirely by South Africa. It's all about the mountains here and there are plenty of them. The culture is strikingly different from that of it's large overbearing neighbour, indeed little Lesotho has to keep it's status, only realised by a quirk of fate when South Africa was coming into it's present day existence. All for the good though, the people are immensely proud and welcoming.

Budget Accommodation in Lesotho.

It's sparse, but you can find it if you look hard enough, for example some of the missions will give you a bed, as will some of the Agricultural Training Centres, for a small fee. There are some camp sites available in the parks and beside lodges, and the lodges themselves can prove to be of reasonable value.

A Traveller's Budget for Lesotho

If you want to get around Lesotho then public transport takes the form of bus or minibus. If you want to get a little off the beaten track you'll have to hitch with a truck driver and the fee for this is negotiable. Try to buy your bus tickets between individual towns as they only leave when full and you could end up waiting for hours for the bus to fill at the next town. It only works out marginally more expensive to do it this way.

Budget Activities in Lesotho

Trekking in the mountains. Everything is high up here.

Take a pony through the mountains if you can't be bothered to walk.

Take a look at the dinosaur footprints at Tsikoane.
