Budget Travel Guide to Samoa

Samoa is a Pacific Paradise, fully commited to it's own culture after years of outside occupation but yet fully open to new ideas. It's attitude to tourism is one of full on sustainabilty, its lands still traditionally owned. The people are friendly and laid back

Budget Accommodation in Samoa

You can get accommodation in a beach Fale for next to nothing and it's basic but gives a good feel for the place and the meals are included in the price. Otherwise there are some reasonably priced guesthouses. Camping isn't really an option unless you have prior consent from the custodians of the land.

A Traveller's Budget for Samoa

Samoa is relatively cheap compared to other South Pacific islands. To eat cheaply use teh markets and grocery stores found in each town or get youself invited to dinner at a traditional umu feed, local produce cooked in an earth oven. Travel is usually done by bus but there are no set schedules as such and the drivers tend to stop when they please. Cycling around Samoa is completely achievable, the roads are good and the traffic not too heavy. Travel between the islands is obviously by boat

Activities

Samoan land is almost entirely owned by the community so you must ask before using the land for anything, including recreational activities

-Surfing; a lot of the water around Samoa is pretty full on for surfing but there are some surf operators who can tell you where to go or take you there.

-Hiking in the rainforest in O Le Pupupu'e National Park

-Fishing with the locals

-Walking the coastal track from Falefa Falls to Fagaloa Bay

-Sea Kayak round the coast to get to some stunning remote spots

-Snorkelling just about anywhere but take your own gear or hire it in Apia
