Snowsports on the cheap
Some places are obviously cheaper than others for snowsports,
Bulgaria for instance is cheaper than the French Alps, so shop around
a bit and be prepared to look in countries that you might not immediately
associate with apres ski. Eastern Europe is a good starting point, particularly
countries that are new to the EU / about to join sometime soon.
The other option is to work at a resort. You could do
anything really, bar work, chalet maid, general maintenance dogsbody,
massage therapist (if you're qualified)... There'll be enough free time
to get a fix of the white stuff. You could also be a ski / snowboard instructor
and get paid for your time on the snow although you have to put up with
the brats. Talk to some ski holiday operators about employment, they'll
even pay for your flights there and back if they want you.
The third and not necessarily least expensive option
is to walk to the top to avoid the price of the lift pass and come down
hell for leather off piste. If you don't know what you're doing though
chances are the medical bills will be way higher than you would have paid
for a top holiday in Whistler.
