Budget Accommodation in Tonga
There are only a couple of hostels to speak of and camping is only allowed either on remote deserted islands through a guided trip and in a few places in inhabited areas (like the Tongan Beachcomber Resort). Guesthouses are plentiful however, they're cheap, and they usually include either meals or cooking facilities.
A Traveller's Budget for Tonga
You should be able to get by on T$40 - T$50 per day including accommodation expenses if you're careful. Food consists of a lot of root veg which is pretty cheap to come by at maekets. To travel around Tonga, plane is the easiest way with flights between the major islands.If you've come from the Northern Hemisphere you will be eligible for an Air Pass which lets you fly between Tongatapu, Ha'apai, Vava'u and 'Eua. Otherwise you can catch a boat which will be cheaper but slower. Buses run on some of the larger islands and cost little. Or hire a scooter.

-Diving and Snoreling at Tongatapu and Ha'apai
- Watch for whales on a fishing boat
-Look out for some ancient Royal Tombs and monuments to Polynesian ancestors.
-Chill on the deserted beaches on Ha'apai
